Frequently asked questions

Why kiln-dried firewood?

Kiln-drying removes moisture in a controlled environment, so the wood lights easily, burns hot and clean, and produces less smoke and creosote. It’s also pest- and mold-free — and ready to burn the day it arrives.

How much wood do I need?

A City Cord (6 boxes) covers occasional fires for a month or two. Fill Your Firewood Rack tops off a standard 4-foot rack. A Face Cord — 4′ high by 8′ long — is a season’s supply for regular burners.

Do you stack the wood?

Yes. We deliver in reusable bins, unload, and stack the wood neatly wherever you want it — the bins leave with us. What you’re left with is your firewood, stacked and ready to burn.

Where do you deliver, and how fast?

We deliver locally across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and beyond — there’s always a free option, with limited free next-day delivery — and ship boxed firewood nationwide. Prefer to grab it yourself? Pick up at one of our three locations.

Do I need to be home for delivery?

No. Tell us where you want the wood at checkout — porch, garage, backyard, building lobby — and our crew will deliver and stack it there. We’ll send a photo when it’s done.

What’s the difference between the species?

Oak is the high-heat, long-burn workhorse. Cherry burns slow and steady with a sweet aroma. Hickory is the hottest-burning with bold BBQ smoke. Ash lights easily and burns bright and clean — our pick for pizza ovens. Apple gives a fruity smoke prized for grilling.

Which size should I pick?

16″ standard fits most fireplaces, stoves and fire pits. 12″ shorties suit compact fireplaces. 8″ halfers are for full-size pizza ovens, 6″ minis for portable ovens like Ooni and Solo, and 3″ chunks are for smoking on the grill.

Is it safe to cook over?

Absolutely. Our kiln-dried hardwood is food-safe and is the choice of top-rated New York City chefs, pizzerias, and restaurants.

How many pieces come in a bundle or bin?

About 6–8 pieces in a bundle, and about 15–20 in a bin.

What’s the difference between a cord and a face cord?

A cord is the standard unit of measurement for firewood: a stack 4′ high × 4′ deep × 8′ long. A face cord is one row of that — 4′ high by 8′ long at one log deep. Our packages go from a single bin up to a face cord and beyond.

How big are the pieces?

We have options — lengths from 3″ chunks up to 16″ standard splits, in standard or thin split. Pick the size that fits your fireplace, stove, or oven.

How long does it burn?

About 1–2 hours per bundle, and it goes up from there — roughly 2–3 hours per bin, and a rack or cord keeps you going all season.

How should I store my firewood?

Keep it off the ground, covered on top, with airflow on the sides — a rack near the house works perfectly. Kiln-dried wood stays ready to burn as long as it stays dry.
